Our Mission

The Royal Navy Golfing Society (RNGS) exists to enable our Members to enjoy playing golf together and to help represent the Royal Navy in the community.

Membership

Membership is open to all officers, ratings and other ranks of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Commonwealth Navies, Royal Naval Reserves, and Royal Marine Reserve, whether serving or retired.

Current membership stands close to 270 (with about 80 active Members), ranging from former National Servicemen to serving Flag Officers.

Ethos

We ‘play to win’ all our Matches, but our over-riding principle is that all Members should be able to enjoy their golf and each others’ company.

All fixtures are played on a handicap basis and all Members are afforded an equal opportunity to participate.

Management

The Society is managed by a 6-man Committee, elected by Members, consisting of the Captain, Vice-Captain, Immediate Past-Captain, and the Honorary Treasurer, Secretary/Membership Secretary, and Match Secretary.

We also rely on Match Managers to select teams for Matches, liaise with the opposition and deal with the finances.

Fixtures

We run 3 Meetings (Spring, Summer and Autumn) a year and about 25 matches, running between mid-April and the end of September.  Short tours are arranged informally amongst Members.
