RNGS vs Bigbury GC
What a fabulous day we have all had. It kicked off with a great big breakfast which everyone enjoyed. The course was prepared to first class condition by Richard the Headgreenkeeper and his team. Greens running at around 10 on the stimp meter. Personally I had a disappointing result and hence lost the first match, which was the only defeat for the RNGS. 4 wins and 2 halves result in a 5 - 2 win.
RNGS vs Thurlestone GC
A brilliant day with a balmy breeze and the golf course looking splendid. After a hearty lunch and a glass of red the team ventured out to the first tee. The first two matches were won by RNGS. The third match was halved so looking good. We lost match 4, but won match 5. So with two matches to come in we were leading 3 1/2 - 1 1/2. Unfortunately the last two games lost on the eighteen, meaning for another year the trophy was retained by the club, with the result being 3½-3½.
RNGS vs Brokenhurst GC
A fabulous day at Brokenhurst GC yesterday. The course was in good condition, but like all courses in the south needs some rain. The alterations they have made work really well and make the course fun to play. There were a number of players who were regulars at this fixture, but also a number of new participants - welcome! Unfortunately, even with a full team, RNGS could'nt quite manage to win. We lost 1½-4½.
RNGS vs FAAOGS
Although the course was still recovering from course maintenance the week before the match, it was it’s usual very relaxed and competitive occasion with old friends and rivalries. Unfortunately, we Lost 2-3.
RNGS vs Army Officers Golf Society @ Walton Heath
Fantastic match against the Army at Walton Heath GC. Unfortunately the RAF pulled out because of no team, but a team of friends made up the third team. Walton Heath Golf Club was in magnificent condition and they would like this to be an annual event. Result was a draw with the Army.
RNGS vs Huntercombe GC
Played on a slightly blustery and generally light overcast day Huntercombe was at its best, carpeted in bluebells with the yellow rape fields in the background and looking over to the Vale of the White Horse. The course and greens were superb, fortunately not yet up to their full speed! This year RNGS fielded a team of 10 following several unfortunate last minute dropouts, through no fault of their own, and to whom we send good wishes. This meant some players new to Huntercombe, all of whom acquitted themselves well. The match was hard fought but in the most delightful spirit, and followed by a truly excellent lunch and bonhomie. The result, entirely appropriately, was a match halved 2½-2½ .
Spring Meeting - Liphook GC
Great couple of rounds in fabulous conditions. Liphook as always was in magnificent condition!
Staff College Cup - Peter Eberle
Benson Trophy - Iain Macdonald
RNGS Challenge Cup - Bob White
Evans Salver - Peter Eberle
RNGS vs RNGA(West) - East Devon
Match held at East Devon for the first time. The course had recently had its spring maintenance period, but was still in good condition. The greens were a little slow, though still good for this early in the season. In cracking weather the team played well and managed to Win 3-2. Looks like East Devon will host this match again next year.
